Revealing the
Railpark

Site/Sound’s purpose was to revitalize an overgrown and underused stretch of the Rail Park in Philadelphia through a variety of immersive but fleeting pop-up installations. This two week festival experience centered around honoring the history of the Rail Park, a quarter-mile of elevated green space that was once home to one of Philly’s busiest rail lines.

Our team partnered with Mural Arts Philadelphia and Friends of the Rail Park to brand, promote, and guide this experience in the physical and digital space. We invited the public to envision the future of this path, both above and below the cityscape, through a variety of audio performances, film screenings, live music, and dance.

Building intrigue without
revealing your cards.

From light shows that accentuated the detailed textures found along the path, to exciting audio performances echoing the sounds of the Rail Park current and past, Site/Sound created a world of pleasant unexpectedness.

Visually, we wanted to emulate the delightful tension the viewer would soon find within these installations, without giving too much away. We curated a color palette that was inspired by the textures in the Rail Park but also contrasted it, and graphically began to visualize things you might otherwise hear. Asymmetrical layouts marrying sweeping blank space with tight, graphic typography were intended to mirror the anticipation and energy of this fleeting experience.
